SEAS 2005

Over three decades software engineers had come to understand complexity in software better, and architectures with many dynamically interacting components, each with its own thread of control and engaged in complex coordination protocols, are orders of magnitude harder to engineer correctly and efficiently than ones that compute a function of some input in a single thread. SEAS set out to discuss the state of the art and the future directions of software engineering for agent-oriented systems, and explicitly to bring the Brazilian and the international research communities in the field together. It was held with the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering, an event of 500 to 700 people promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society in cooperation with ACM SIGSOFT and IEEE. Jean-Pierre Briot was the keynote speaker, and the best papers were to be invited to a special issue of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society.
