MOTIVATION
Over the past three decades, software engineers have derived a
progressively better understanding of the characteristics of complexity
in software. Software architectures that contain many dynamically
interacting components, each with their own thread of control, and
engaging in complex coordination protocols, are typically orders of
magnitude more complex to correctly and efficiently engineer than those
that simply compute a function of some input through a single thread of
control, or through a limited set of strictly synchronized threads of
control.
Agent concepts hold great promise for responding to the new realities of
complex software. They offer higher level abstractions and mechanisms
which address issues such as knowledge representation and reasoning,
communication, coordination, cooperation among heterogeneous and
autonomous parties, perception, commitments, goals, beliefs, intentions,
etc.
Software agents and multi-agent systems have grown into what is now one
of the most active areas of research and development activity in
computing generally. Agent-orientation has emerged as an interesting
paradigm to deal with real world abstraction and organization
representation. There are many reasons for the current intensity of
interest, but certainly one of the most important is that the concept of
an agent as an autonomous system, capable of interacting with other
agents in order to satisfy its design objectives, is a natural one for
software designers.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
SEAS invites the research community to submit papers in all aspects of
software engineering for agent-oriented systems including the following,
but not limited to:
- Agent-oriented requirements analysis and specification
- Agent Theory: focusing on MAS characteristics
- Case Studies and experiments for developing MAS
- Coordination and cooperation frameworks for agent systems
- Design patterns for design MAS
- Domain specific languages for MAS
- Formal methods for agent-oriented systems, including specification and
verification logics
- MDA (Model Driven Architecture) for MAS
- Methodologies and modeling languages for MAS
- Ontologies for MAS
- Open multi-agent systems
- Mobile agents
- Model checking for MAS
- Platforms, software development environments and CASE tools for MAS
- Process models for agent-based development
- Programming languages for MAS
- Service-oriented computing in the context of agent-based systems
- Software architectures and frameworks for deploying MAS

FORMAT AND SUBMISSIONS
Authors are invited to submit technical, original papers that should not
have been published or submitted to other workshops, journals or book
chapters. We encourage authors to present novel ideas, critique of
existing work, and practical studies and experiments, which states the
relationship between software engineering techniques and agent-oriented
systems.
Technical papers should be submitted according to the SBC format. The
papers should have at least 6 pages and must not exceed 10 A4 papes
including all text, references, appendices, and figures. Submitted
papers can be written in Portuguese or English and must be in Adobe
Portable Document Format (PDF).

Submitted papers will be reviewed based on originality, relevance,
technical soundness and presentation. All papers will be reviewed by at
least three reviewers. Accepted papers will be published in CD and they
will also be available in the workshop website.
It is the aim of the organizers to invite the best paper authors to
publish extended versions of their papers in a special issue of the
Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS).
