Integration of Software Engineering and Agent Technology (ISEAT 2005)
Theme: Languages, Tools and Platforms
September 19-21, 2005

Agents are a promising new approach for designing and building the
increasingly complex software systems that are part of the essential
infrastructure of modern society. Structuring software as a collection
of autonomous agents can give a number of benefits including increased
flexibility, adaptability, and robustness. However, much of the research
on agent-oriented software engineering is done by a research community
that has strong links to agents, but weaker links to mainstream
(non-agent) software engineering and to industry.
In order for agent technology to make the shift from research labs to
industrial practice, bridges must be built between the agent research
community and the software engineering research community, and between
researchers and practising software engineers. There have already been
some events that have begun this process, such as the workshop on
agent-oriented methodologies at OOPSLA, and SELMAS which is held in
conjunction with the International Conference on Software Engineering
(ICSE 2005). There has also been interest in agent technology from
industry, for example, the Object Management Group (OMG) have recently
issued a request for information (RFI) on modeling agent-based systems.
The aim of this workshop, which is being run as part of the Fifth
International Conference on Quality Software (QSIC 2005), is to bring
together researchers from the software engineering community and
researchers from the agent community.
There are a number of related events that focus on agent-oriented
software engineering such as Agent-Oriented Information Systems (AOIS),
Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (AOSE), Software Engineering for
Large-Scale Multi-Agent Systems (SELMAS), Agent-Oriented Methodologies,
and Agent-Oriented Software Development Methodology (AOSDM). In order to
give this workshop a "flavour" which is distinct from these events, this
year it has a pragmatic theme: Languages, Tools and Platforms.
Topics of Interest
We solicit papers on all aspects relating to software engineering and
agent technology, and their overlap. This includes, but is not limited
to, papers on the following topics:
* Agent-oriented programming languages, modeling languages,
specification languages, etc.
* Agent platforms, architectures, and middleware
* Tools supporting various aspects of developing and deploying agent
systems such as development, debugging and testing.
* Methodologies: processes and notations for capturing requirements
and designing agent systems.
* Applications of agents, and experiences and lessons
* Relationships between agent technology and other technologies such
as objects, web services, mobile computing, and the grid.
* Reliability and fault-tolerance in agent-based systems
* Testing, Verification & Validation of agent systems
All submitted papers will be reviewed by members of the Programme
Committee. Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings
by IEEE Computer Society Press.
Selected papers from the workshop will be invited to be extended and
revised for publication in the International Journal of
Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (IJAOSE).
Formats and Submission
Paper submission is by emailing a PDF file to winikoff@cs.rmit.edu.au.
Papers should be in IEEE format (TBC) and be at most 6 pages long (TBC).
Important:
* Submitted papers must be original, have not been published
elsewhere or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
* If a paper is accepted, an author must attend the workshop to
present the paper.
* Papers must relate to software engineering: papers that simply
focus on one aspect of agent technology without being related to
software engineering will be rejected as being irrelevant to the
workshop.

* Submission: 22nd April 2005
* Notification: 22nd June 2005
* Camera ready: 22nd July 2005
* Workshop and QSIC 2005 Conference: 19-21 September 2005
