Programming Agent-Environment Interaction for MAS Situatedness in ReSpecT

Exploiting the notion of environment artifact defined according to the A&A meta-model, and the ReSpecT language for MAS coordination, this article first proposes an architecture for MAS situatedness based on coordination artifacts, then focusses on a ReSpecT-based technology as a programming tool for the engineering of agent-environment interaction. As a case study, we show how a MAS architecture based on suitably programmed ReSpecT tuple centres and transducers can be used to reproduce the classic Brooks' subsumption architecture, by combining the benefits of the layered and reactive architecture with the symbolic representation of facts, events and rules in terms of the first-order logic language ReSpecT.
