Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory

The key role of simulation as an approach for prototyping and validating complex multi-agent systems (MASs) during the development stage is today generally acknowledged in the MAS community. However, the adoption of simulation in the state of the art of the Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (AOSE) methodologies is still either weak or incomplete at its best.
In this paper we first present our simulation approach and then review different AOSE methodologies — and their extension for supporting simulation — in order to devise out some general guidelines for integrating our simulation approach into AOSE methodologies.
Finally, in order to validate these guidelines, we show an integration of our simulation approach within the SODA methodology.
