--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ModelAge'97 4th ModelAge Workshop ``FORMAL MODELS OF AGENTS'' Certosa di Pontignano (Italy), 15-17 January 1997 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS The goal of this workshop is to bring together a limited, interdisciplinary group for an in-depth discussion on formal models of agents. Agent is a concept covering software artifacts and human beings, individuals and societies. This concept is emerging in disciplines as diverse as organisation theory, artificial intelligence, logic, data bases, philosophy, requirements engineering. These models try to describe, predict and analyse the internal "facets" of agents (beliefs, goals, etc.) as well as their external individual and collective behaviour. The workshop will have a limited attendance, no parallel sessions, large slots for discussion. SCIENTIFIC TOPICS The general theme is formal models of agent, integrating several ``facets'' including e.g.: - belief - knowledge - abilities - intentions - goal - commitments - communication - behaviour - choice - freedom Papers reporting ongoing research are welcome (see below). Authors are invited to present and compare the possible design alternatives relevant to their work. The post-proceedings will be published by a major scientific publisher. LOCATION Risen in the 14th century in the open country, at the frontier between the States of Siena and Florence, the Certosa (Charterhouse) of Pontignano maintains its original aspect of a haven of peace in the celebrated region of Chianti. The large Renaissance remakings have left unchanged that harmony with nature which distinguished the Carthusian life. The hills accompany the way to the near Siena (about 10 kilometres from Pontignano); olive trees and grapevines surround the Certosa and a tended land penetrates into it and turns to precious gardens, with no separation between the natural environment and the Certosa's harmonious architectural structure, made more precious with many works of art.
