The search scope of this survey are publications that use Multi-agent systems (MAS) and Belief-desire-intention (BDI) agents in their approach to solve a problem in their domain. Preferably, publications which present a fully implemented and evaluated solution in a real world scenario will be selected. Nonetheless, publications that propose a solution using MAS and BDI agents, that are evaluated with e.g. computer simulations, will also be considered.
This survey aims to provide an overview of current and past approaches using MAS and BDI agents by systematically presenting them as case studies and highlighting their differences and similarities. The goal of this study is to identify the use cases and domains where the use of MAS and BDI agents is promising, to weigh the benefits and disadvantages of using this approach, and to evaluate their efficiency of achieving the desired result compared to alternative approaches. Additionally, if possible, I want to analyze what the of the successful approaches are and identify current trends and future challenges in the research field.
