abstract
In the last few years topics like Blockchain, cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and Ethereum have become very popular and have catalyzed global interest. Even if the publication of the Bitcoin protocol by Satoshi Nakamoto dates back to 2008 it is closely related to an older and classic problem in information technology described by Leslie Lamport, Robert Shostak and Marshall Pease in their 1982 paper, ”The Byzantine Generals Problem”. In this report, a description and analysis of the relationship between topics like the Byzantine Generals Problem, Byzantine Fault Tolerance, consensus and Blockchain is presented.
