The gap between programming languages and hardware architectures is being reduced by recent advances in technology. First candidate for a migration towards hardware are those software functions which traditionally implement concurrent features. A major problem is which mechanism a general purpose processor must provide to give effective and efficient support to a wide range of applications. In this note the problem is examined, considering one of the first processors of that new generation: the Intel iAPX-432. Mechanisms provided by the 432 for process interaction are used in relation to the implementation of concurrent features of CHILL, a high level language proposed as a standard in the Telecommunication field.
