Workshop on Semantic Middleware: Enabling Large Scale Knowledge Applications

The second edition reframed the workshop around the rise of "the Web as the Platform": the Web replacing heterogeneous legacy platforms as the one integrator for data and services, growing at extreme speed through the openness and autonomy of prosuming entities, and needing new means of access and management to cope. It looked for proposals contributing to a new semantic middleware layer that enables the Semantic Web in the true Web sense — large-scale, open and distributed. A different organising committee gave the 2009 edition, in the chairs' own words, "a slightly more (semantic) service computing touch"; it was supported by the European FP7 project SOA4All.
