MASW 2013

Modelling a smart city is of both theoretical and practical interest, and two kinds of simulation had grown up around it: one aiming at a high level of realism in behaviour, as in safety, social science and energy work, and one aiming at high-quality visualisation, as in films, games and virtual reality. Agent-based simulation gives the highest behavioural realism among the microscopic approaches, but the cost of simulating many interacting agents forces the usual compromise between performance and accuracy; multi-level models are the promising way out, and they were the subject of this workshop. Accepted papers appeared in the ANT 2013 proceedings, in Elsevier's open-access Procedia Computer Science.
