MAAMAW was the European workshop on multi-agent systems, held regularly in Western Europe from 1989 and deliberately kept small — a limited audience, a convivial site, interdisciplinary grounding and a large place for discussion. Proceedings: *Agents Breaking Away*, Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence 1038 (Springer, 1996, ISBN 3-540-60852-4). This is the edition that broke the August rhythm — it was held in January, and there was no 1995 workshop.
