September 1-3, 2025
About
The 25th European Agent Systems Summer School will be held at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA of Bucharest , Romania from the 1st to the 3rd September, 2025. The EASSS is organised under the auspices of EURAMAS , the European Association for Multi-Agent Systems. The event is also collocated with the EUMAS 2025 conference (3rd - 5th September 2025) having one day of common activities.
The main goal of the European Agent Systems Summer School is to provide exchange of knowledge among individuals and groups interested in various aspects of autonomous systems. This dissemination is provided by formal state-of-the-art courses conducted by leading experts in the field and by informal meetings during the event. The school attracts both beginner and experienced researchers, encouraging cooperation between representatives of many branches of the Multi-Agent Systems research community.
The topics tackled within the field are becoming increasingly important due to ubiquity of distributed systems, including Internet of Things, intelligent buildings and cities, autonomous robots, AI agents etc. Both the practical and theoretical aspects of Multi-Agent Systems are within the scope of EASSS.

Call For Tutorials
We invite tutorial proposals for the 25th European Agent Systems Summer School , which will be hosted by the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA of Bucharest , Romania, from the 1st to the 3rd September, 2025.
Since 1999, the annual European Agent Systems Summer School (EASSS) has provided a highly successful forum for knowledge exchange between researchers in the field of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. As was the case with the earlier editions, EASSS 2025 will offer a rich program of both introductory and advanced courses on a broad range of topics in the area of Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. The courses will be taught by leading researchers in the field, and are aimed at advanced Masters students, PhD students, and other young researchers.
We are interested in tutorial proposals in all areas of current research in Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. As a very rough guideline, any topic that might be covered at the AAMAS conference or in the JAAMAS journal would be suitable for EASSS. We aim for a mix of tutorials on fundamental and well-established topics, as well as overviews of new and emerging areas of research. For emerging MAS technologies, we particularly welcome tutorials on approaches that leverage both the classical as well as the LLM-supported notion of agency.
Tutorials should cover an appropriate selection of approaches and not specifically focus on the tutors' own contributions. Besides providing a coherent overview of a specific research topic, we specifically encourage tutorial proposals to articulate a clear link to applications and pragmatic consideration of the fundamental topics presented.
EASSS tutorials are typically 3 hours long, divided into two sessions of 90 minutes each. For the detailed call for tutorials, please see below. We encourage both well-established senior researchers and younger colleagues to submit proposals. Each tutorial is usually given by one or two tutors. Exceptions are of course possible; for proposals by more than two tutors, please justify this choice in the proposal and explain how you intend to ensure the coherence of the tutorial. To assist the tutors, we can support a partial or full reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs per tutorial, for an amount to be announced soon.
Submission Instructions
A tutorial proposal should take the form of a single PDF document covering the points listed below. The maximum length of the proposal is 2 pages, and the use of our LaTeX template is mandatory .
The following points should be addressed in the tutorial proposal, preferably in the order stated below:
Title of the proposed tutorial.
Tutor(s): name, affiliation, full contact details, and a link to the personal homepage of each tutor.
Abstract: a short paragraph describing the tutorial (100-300 words), suitable for publication at the EASSS 2025 website.
Topics covered: detailed list of topics covered in the tutorial in terms of a list, preferably in the order in which the tutorial will cover them.
Type: a clear indication of whether the tutorial takes a theoretical or applications-oriented perspective on the topics covered. We encourage tutorial proposals that balance the two perspectives.
Level: please indicate the target audience and level of the course. If there are prerequisites, describe what knowledge will be assumed by the tutorial.
Teaching materials: Please indicate what kind of teaching materials you intend to provide. Note that we will require materials by the date above, so that they can be distributed to EASSS attendees in advance.
Duration: Tutorials are typically 3 hours long. If you have good reasons for wanting to deviate from this standard, please explain this in your proposal.
Equipment: Please list any special equipment (beyond data projector and whiteboard) that you might need.
Short biographical sketch for each tutor (around 100 words per tutor), suitable for publication at the EASSS 2025 website.
Experience of tutor(s): please provide details on relevant teaching experience of the tutor(s).
Additional information on the proposed tutorial. Include as much detail as you see fit.
Please submit the proposal (including LaTeX source) by email to eumas2025@upb.ro mentioning [TUTORIAL] in the subject line.

Agents for Change: An Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling for Exploring Social Systems and Public Policy (theory)
This workshop offers a structured introduction to the theoretical foundations of agent-based modelling (ABM),
a computational approach used to simulate complex systems through the actions and interactions of individual agents.
ABM enables the analysis of emergent phenomena, incorporating heterogeneity, local interactions, and adaptive behavior—features
that are often neglected in aggregate models. The sessions will highlight the strengths of ABM in capturing social dynamics
and its relevance in informing evidence-based policy design.

Agents for Change: An Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling for Exploring Social Systems and Public Policy (practice)
Participants will gain hands-on experience using NetLogo, a widely adopted open-source ABM platform.
Guided assignments will involve exploring classic models such as "Wolf Sheep Predation", "Traffic 2 Lanes", and "Flocking".
More advanced topics, including ABM applications in healthcare and organ donation policy, will also be discussed.
Participants will have the opportunity to either modify existing code or design a conceptual model,
with tasks tailored to their programming background and supported by instructor feedback.

Meta-Learning for Reinforcement Learning: Generalizing Agents to Unseen Scenarios (theory)
Reinforcement Learning (RL) is a popular framework where agents learn optimal behaviors through trial-and-error interactions with an environment, but it often struggles to generalize to new or changing conditions. Meta-learning addresses this limitation by enabling models to quickly adapt using prior experience, even with minimal new data. Meta-Reinforcement Learning (Meta-RL) extends this concept to sequential decision-making, focusing on learning adaptable initializations rather than fixed policies.
This tutorial (i) covers the foundations of meta-learning and deep RL, (ii) introduces Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) as a key Meta-RL technique, and (iii) concludes with a practical session using customizable code templates.

Hands-on Interaction-oriented Programming (theory)
This tutorial explores recent advances in interaction protocols, commitments, and norms within multiagent systems (MAS), with a focus on information modeling and decentralized execution.
It introduces Interaction-Oriented Programming (IOP) as a framework for engineering MAS, along with languages and techniques for modeling, verifying, and implementing agent protocols.
Practical implementation will be demonstrated using both Python and BDI models, supported by publicly available software tools.
The tutorial also contrasts IOP with traditional agent communication methods and mainstream programming approaches.
Aimed at senior undergraduates, graduate students, and practitioners, it also offers insights relevant to distributed systems, asynchrony, concurrency, and fault tolerance.

This tutorial introduces the emerging landscape of multi-agent systems powered by large language models (LLM-MAS), outlining key architectures,
paradigms, and recent trends. We then focus on how such systems can be used for structured exploration and knowledge discovery,
highlighting agents that collaborate, adapt, and reason like autonomous scientists in complex digital environments.
