ATAL-96

Intelligent agents were one of the most important developments in computer science of the 1990s, of interest from human-computer interaction to industrial process control. The ATAL workshop series brought together researchers on the three themes of its name: agent *theories* — which approaches, from game theory to temporal and modal logic, suit the formal description of agents, and how they relate; agent *architectures* — what software and hardware structures suit autonomous agents; and agent *languages* — how agents are to be programmed. Its post-proceedings are *Intelligent Agents III*, Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence 1193, edited by Jörg P. Müller, Michael J. Wooldridge, Nicholas R. Jennings. The 3rd edition was held as a workshop of ECAI'96.
