abstract

The goal is to develop a distributed Multi-Agent System using Jason/AgentSpeak for the development and execution of BDI agents, and JADE as the framework for agent communication and distributed deployment. The MAS represents a parking system, in which three roles of BDI agents are present:

  • Driver Agents: autonomously search for a parking spot with specific characteristics, evaluate the proposed alternatives according to their goals and preferences, and decide which parking facility to use;
  • Area Agents: each one is responsible for an area of the city, maintains beliefs about the parking facilities in its area, and provides information to Driver Agents;
  • Parking Agents: represent parking facilities, intended as sets of parking spots, maintain beliefs about their resources (occupied / available spots), and autonomously manage parking requests.

The behavior of the MAS is demonstrated through a simulation based on a simplified grid representing a city, in which the aforementioned agents are placed. The environment models the physical aspects of the system, such as the city map, agent positions, and movement, while the decision-making and coordination logic is contained within the agents.

Particular attention will be given to the modelling of autonomous behavior in the agents, including the representation of beliefs, goals and plans, agent reasoning and decision-making, and inter-agent communication and coordination. The different agent roles will be designed to exhibit distinct goals, knowledge, and behaviors within the parking system.
