abstract
MedNet is a two-tier multi-agent system that simulates a medical emergency network: a control centre, a fleet of ambulances and several hospitals that negotiate the admission of each patient among themselves and, internally, the assignment of a doctor. The system integrates BDI agents written in Jason/AgentSpeak, FIPA ACL communication, a generic Contract Net Protocol reused across two levels of negotiation, a tuProlog knowledge base shared between the Java side and the agent side, a STRIPS planner that derives care plans and role-based access control enforced on every environment action. The result is a system in which admissions are arbitrated by the control centre, a critical case can preempt a less urgent treatment and then be replanned while preserving the exams already performed, an ambulance can be rerouted during transport, and mutually exclusive equipment is coordinated by an arbiter with a priority queue and watchdogs.
