@proceedings{jurix2020,
    abstract = {The field of legal knowledge and information systems has traditionally been concerned with the subjects of legal knowledge representation and engineering, computational models of legal reasoning, and the analysis of legal data, but recent years have also seen an increasing interest in the application of machine learning methods to ease and empower the everyday activities of legal experts. This book presents the proceedings of the 33rd International Conference on Legal Knowledge and Information Systems (JURIX 2020), organised this year as a virtual event on 9–11 December 2020 due to restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. For more than three decades, the annual JURIX international conference, which now also includes demo papers, has provided a platform for academics and practitioners to exchange knowledge about theoretical research and applications in concrete legal use cases. A total of 85 submissions by 255 authors from 28 countries were received for the conference, and after a rigorous review process, 20 were selected for publication as full papers, 14 as short papers, and 5 as demo papers. This selection process resulted in a total acceptance rate of 40% (full and short papers) and a competitive 23.5% acceptance rate for full papers. Topics span from computational models of legal argumentation, case-based reasoning, legal ontologies, smart contracts, privacy management and evidential reasoning to information extraction from different types of text in legal documents, and ethical dilemmas. Providing a state-of-the-art overview of developments in the field, this book will be of interest to all those working with legal knowledge and information systems.},

@article{croatti-himas2020,
    abstract = {A digital twin is a digital representation of a physical asset reproducing its data model, its behaviour and its communication with other physical assets. They act as a digital replica for the physical object or process they represent, providing nearly real-time monitoring and evaluation without being in close proximity. Although most of their concrete applications can be found mainly in the industrial context, healthcare represents another relevant area where digital twins can have a disruptive impact. The main research question tackled by this paper is about the integration of digital twins with agents and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) technologies in healthcare, discussing what are the benefits and how such an integration could be realised. After providing an overview of the application of digital twins in healthcare, in this paper we discuss our vision about agent-based digital twins, and we discuss a first case study, about the application of agent-based digital twins to the management of severe traumas.},

    abstract = {Nowadays, smart mobile applications are a medium allowing more and more for developing (part of) complex software systems, featuring interactive behaviour and exhibiting different degrees of autonomy and flexibility. In agents and MAS literature, Personal Assistant Agents represent the area that mostly can benefit from the availability of frameworks allowing for easily developing native agent-based applications able to exploit features offered by smart mobile and wearable devices. This paper discusses the JaCa-Android framework, a version of JaCaMo redesigned to natively run over mobile devices equipped with Google Android operating system. Exposing native features to observe and perceive the real-time user context and act accordingly, the framework is oriented in particular to the development of smart mobile apps as BDI-based personal assistant agents offering a proper layer of abstraction for this specific purpose.},

@inproceedings{spatiotemporaltuples-ecas2020,
    abstract = {Coordination is a fundamental problem in the engineering of collective adaptive systems (CAS). Prominent approaches in this context promote adaptivity and collective behaviour by founding coordination on local, decentralised interaction. This is usually enabled through abstractions such as collective interfaces, neighbour-based interaction, and attribute-based communication. Application designers, then, use such coordination mechanisms to enact collective adaptive behaviour in order to solve specific problems or provide specific services while coping with dynamic environments. In this paper, we consider the other way round: we argue that a CAS model can be used to provide support for high-level coordination models, simplifying their implementation and transferring to them the self-* properties it emergently fosters. As a motivating example, we consider the idea of supporting tuple-based coordination by Linda primitives such that tuples and operations have a position and extension in space and time. Then, we adopt an aggregate perspective, by which space-time is logically represented by a mobile ad-hoc network of devices, and show that coordination primitives can be implemented as true collective adaptive processes. We describe this model and a prototype implementation in the ScaFi aggregate programming framework, which is rooted in the so-called computational field paradigm.},

@inproceedings{timefluidfieldbased-coord2020,
    abstract = {Emerging application scenarios, such as cyber-physical systems (CPSs), the Internet of Things (IoT), and edge computing, call for coordination approaches addressing openness, self-adaptation, heterogeneity, and deployment agnosticism. Field-based coordination is one such approach, promoting the idea of programming system coordination declaratively from a global perspective, in terms of functional manipulation and evolution in ``space and time'' of distributed data structures, called fields. More specifically, regarding time, in field-based coordination it is assumed that local activities in each device, called computational rounds, are regulated by a fixed clock, typically, a fair and unsynchronized distributed scheduler. In this work, we challenge this assumption, and propose an alternative approach where the round execution scheduling is naturally programmed along with the usual coordination specification, namely, in terms of a field of causal relations dictating what is the notion of causality (why and when a round has to be locally scheduled) and how it should change across time and space. This abstraction over the traditional view on global time allows us to express what we call ``time-fluid'' coordination, where causality can be finely tuned to select the event triggers to react to, up to to achieve improved balance between performance (system reactivity) and cost (usage of computational resources). We propose an implementation in the aggregate computing framework, and evaluate via simulation on a case study.},
