Today's networks and systems are going through a rapid evolution, and the focus of development has shifted from devising algorithms to structuring large systems and overcoming the additional complexity of building distributed, concurrent systems. Extremely complex coordination requirements have to be met to keep up the effectiveness, performance and quality of such systems — production automation is a good example. COCOSS investigates and discusses the many approaches to collaboration and coordination of autonomous communication entities in complex software intensive systems, bringing together researchers and practitioners from multi-agent systems, collaboration, middleware architectures and complex systems.
