Distributed Multiplayer Pacman
Simone Carpi • Alessandro Ronchi • Jiekai Sun
abstract
This project presents the design and implementation of a multiplayer adaptation of the classic arcade game Pac-Man. At its core, the system adopts a client-server architecture to manage real-time game state synchronization and player inputs. Around this foundation, additional services such as authentication, matchmaking and match results persistence were integrated. Beyond these aspects, the project addresses common distributed systems issues. Specifically, it implements horizontal game server scaling to handle fluctuating player demand, periodic game state checkpointing for match recovery and robust disconnection and reconnection handling.
