The aim of the work is building an infrastructure that gives methods to solve problems such as:
(i) algorithms for elaborating biological data and for automatic reasoning on these data, (ii) observations and analysis of physics, biologists, bioinformatics ecc.
This work is a case study for MEnSA project where we propose the realisation of a system that works as Virtual Laboratory (VLab) for the analysis of biological systems. This Lab must give to biologists and bioinformatics a set of tools for searching the solution of a biological problem, and must have some characteristics required by those scientists for supporting their activities.
Between the others biologists and bioinformatics ask that the knowledge and the informations on the biological system are collected and organised on a structure that is accessible and modifiable by external users, who might also be in different places; the system has to provide also a set of built-in functionalities for the elaboration and automatic analysis of these data.
The specific biological problem we take as example in this project is the protein folding or protein structure prediction.
